Homework

Submission of homework assignments

In the following, you will find the homework assignment for the course. The homework must be submitted before midnight on the date specified in ILIAS. To pass the course, you need 50% of the points on each of the assignments. For MST and SSE students, this course is a “Studienleistung”. If you are studying ESE and have taken this course as an elective, we will grade the last homework assignment. Please note the rules for figures and our notes on mathematical formulas. We also deduct points for formal errors.

Technical notes

We recommend that you use the Python programming language in combination with [Jupyter notebooks] to solve the exercises. You have already learned about these technologies in previous courses. The Python modules numpy, scipy and matplotlib are useful for numerics and visualization. The exercise sheets and the learning materials contain hints for implementation in Python. You can also solve the homework assignments in another programming language, but you will not receive any support or hints from us.

You have already been taught technical details about Python in past courses. To refresh and deepen your knowledge, you will find a Python tutorial on these pages that is specifically tailored to Numerik with Python. We provide a bwLehrpool image and a virtual machine with a complete Python installation and all modules you need to solve the tasks here. Please understand that we can only provide technical support for this virtual machine. Unfortunately, we cannot help you to get Python and associated tools running on your own Windows, Mac or Linux installation.
